Martyr’s Day
India celebrates Martyrs' Day or Shaheed Diwas every year on January 30. On January 30, 1948, ‘The Father of The Nation’, Mahatma Gandhi was murdered by Nathuram Godse in the Birla House during his evening prayers. This day is chosen to commemorate and honour the martyrs who laid their lives for the country leaving an indelible mark.
A two-minute silence in memory of martyrs is observed throughout the country at 11 am. A special assembly is organised in LIS, where participants sing all-religion prayers and pay tributes to the martyrs. Many students enthusiastically participate in events of the assembly to show their gratitude to the noble souls whose glorious death is a perennial source of of motivation for the posterity.
