Poetry Writing Competition 2019

“Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotions recollected in tranquility.” (William Wordsworth) Poetry competitions and contests can be a great way of setting the children a target as writers, and for finally polishing up their half-finished poems into completed work. Having their poem chosen in a competition can be a huge boost to their confidence. In addition, the poetry competitions offer exciting training opportunities and support to help the children develop as writers. Poetry helps by teaching rhythm, stringing words together with a beat helps cognitive understanding of words and where they fit. It teaches the art of creative expression and gives a deeper understanding of the language and triggers emotions, strengthens the brain and gives space for self-reflection. Poetry can have a positive impact on the social and emotional learning of the children and it may offer them a new way of thinking. Laxmi International School organized Poetry Writing Competitions to make the children consider anything from love to loss, indeed poetry does what little else can, it can inspire. The children enthusiastically participated in the competitions to expose an insight into the inner workings of their minds, their ideas and their loves.
